Draw and Eat: Crab Legs

I love it when something is both delicious and fun to draw!  I started my sketch by lightly blocking in the large shapes with a fine point ballpoint pen, and then defined the edges in a thicker ballpoint pen.  The finer pen also worked well for fine details and a bit of shading. (Here I used a Zebra F-301 compact pen and a Uni Jetstream 101 size 1.0.)

For the color, I layered warm, pinkish washes of watercolor using various shades of red (Perylene Maroon, Cadmium Red Deep, and Magenta), Cadmium Yellow Medium, and a touch of Winsor Blue to tone it down a bit.

Fading Sunflowers

Flowers for Emma from Grandma and Grandpa.
(I should have sketched these before the became so wilted, but better late than never!
And it gives the petals an interesting twisted look.)

Weird Tomatoes

Some strangely shaped tomatoes at the farmers market in Asheville this past summer.  Between the colors and shapes they were lots of fun to draw!

Beginning the new year with a few sketches...

It's been forever since I've posted any sketches. Making an attempt to get back into it with the new year!  (The second photo--trying out Derwent Inktense Blocks. They work nicely with a brush and water, like traditional watercolors only more opaque, and very bright colors.)

Fresh Farm Eggs

I loved the colors of these fresh eggs, and they tasted delicious too!
